The Nike Air Max 93 with its sock-like fit was first released in 1993 and called the Air Max 270 for its 270 degree exposed Air Sole unit. These Nike running shoes were manufactured using a new process called blow molding in which gas was injected through a tube that force plastic into a mold. This new process was meant to provide maximum impact protection for serious runners because it contained more air than previous Air Max models.
